The blade of this knife is made from Muonionalusta meteorite and displays the distinctive Widmanstätten pattern that makes this iron meteorite so recognizable. The metal inlays in the handle are made from the same Muonionalusta meteorite, allowing that natural pattern to continue into the handle. The meteorite blade is welded to a Damascus steel handle beneath stainless steel bolsters. The handle scales are made from two beautiful varieties of dinosaur gembone, displaying rich red and gray tones along with a variety of naturally colored fossilized cells. Both the knife and sheath were made entirely by me and are laser engraved or stamped with the Rough Cut Lapidary (RCL) logo. Also included are a custom display case and a certificate of authenticity. About the Widmanstätten patternMuonionalusta is an iron meteorite discovered in northern Sweden near Muonio. It is believed to have fallen to Earth during the Quaternary Period, approximately one million years ago, while the meteorite material itself formed about 4.56 billion years ago as part of the iron core of a differentiated asteroid. After polishing and etching, Muonionalusta can reveal the distinctive Widmanstätten pattern seen in this blade and its matching meteorite inlays. The pattern is formed by intergrown iron-nickel minerals that developed as the parent asteroid cooled extremely slowly over immense periods of time. This natural crystalline structure cannot be reproduced through ordinary terrestrial metalworking.
