Trapper Knife with Utah Zebra Stone Handles

Past work, not for sale

This Buck trapper knife was customized by Rough Cut Lapidary with polished Utah Zebra Stone handles. This banded marble displays contrasting white, light gray, charcoal, and black patterning that gives the stone its distinctive zebra-like appearance. The knife measures 3.5 inches closed, with blade lengths of 2 5/8 inches. This piece has been sold and is preserved in the Rough Cut Lapidary gallery as an example of past work.

About Utah Zebra Stone (banded marble)Zebra Stone is a trade or lapidary name used for strongly contrasting patterned stone rather than a single mineral species. The material used for this knife is a banded marble from Utah. Marble is a metamorphic rock formed when carbonate-rich rock, such as limestone or dolostone, recrystallizes under heat and pressure. Contrasting mineral-rich bands and other impurities can produce the black, gray, and white patterns visible when the stone is cut and polished.
