Toothpick Knife Dinosaur Gembone Handles

Past work, not for sale

This Buck toothpick knife was customized by Rough Cut Lapidary with polished dinosaur gembone handles. The fossilized bone displays deep red and dark maroon coloration with areas of blue to blue-gray coloration within the preserved bone cell structure. Dark outlines accentuate the individual cells and create strong contrast across the handles. The knife measures 3 inches closed with a 2 1/4-inch blade. This piece has been sold and is preserved in the Rough Cut Lapidary gallery as an example of past work.

About Dinosaur GemboneDinosaur gembone is fossilized dinosaur bone that has been mineralized over geologic time. Much of the dinosaur bone we use comes from the Late Jurassic Morrison Formation, which occurs across parts of Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and surrounding areas. All dinosaur bone used by Rough Cut Lapidary is legally sourced from private land. In this piece, the red and blue coloration occurs within the preserved fossilized bone cell structure.
