Damascus Steel Knife with Montana Petrified Wood Handles
Past work, not for saleThis handcrafted knife features a Damascus steel blade paired with polished Montana petrified wood handles. The petrified wood displays dark brown, gray, and earthy natural tones with visible linear structure running along the handles. The layered pattern of the Damascus steel complements the natural structure of the petrified wood. The knife includes a fitted sheath and has been sold, remaining in the Rough Cut Lapidary gallery as an example of past work.
About Montana Petrified WoodPetrified wood forms when buried wood becomes mineralized, commonly through silica-rich groundwater, while much of the original microscopic and larger-scale wood structure can remain preserved. When cut and polished, petrified wood can reveal grain, growth structures, and a wide variety of colors produced by the minerals present during fossilization. The material used for the handles on this knife is from Montana.
