Trapper Knife with Dinosaur Gembone Handles

Past work, not for sale

This Buck trapper knife was customized by Rough Cut Lapidary with polished dinosaur gembone handles. The fossilized bone displays rich maroon coloration within the preserved bone cell structure, contrasted by lighter white trabeculae that highlight the internal structure of the original bone. The knife measures 3.5 inches closed, with blade lengths of 2 5/8 inches. This piece has been sold and is preserved in the Rough Cut Lapidary gallery as an example of past work.

About Dinosaur GemboneDinosaur gembone is fossilized dinosaur bone that has been mineralized over geologic time. Much of the dinosaur bone we use comes from the Late Jurassic Morrison Formation, which occurs across parts of Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and surrounding areas. All dinosaur bone used by Rough Cut Lapidary is legally sourced from private land. In this piece, the maroon coloration occurs within the fossilized bone cell structure, while the contrasting lighter trabeculae preserve part of the internal architecture of the original bone.
