Trapper Knife with Dinosaur Gembone Handles

Past work, not for sale

This trapper knife features polished dinosaur gembone handles with rich reddish-brown and orange coloration visible within the fossilized bone cell structure. The dark outlines surrounding the individual cells create a particularly well-defined natural pattern across the handles. The knife measures 3.5 inches closed, with blade lengths of 2 5/8 inches. This piece has been sold and is preserved in the Rough Cut Lapidary gallery as an example of past work.

About Dinosaur GemboneDinosaur gembone is fossilized dinosaur bone that has been mineralized over geologic time. Much of the dinosaur bone we use comes from the Late Jurassic Morrison Formation, which occurs across parts of Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and surrounding areas. All dinosaur bone used by Rough Cut Lapidary is legally sourced from private land. The colors visible in polished gembone occur within the preserved fossilized bone cell structure.
