Toothpick Knife with Dinosaur Gembone Handles

Past work, not for sale

This Buck toothpick knife was customized by Rough Cut Lapidary with polished dinosaur gembone handles. The fossilized bone displays dark pink, purple, burgundy, and maroon coloration within the preserved bone cell structure. The subdued colors and dense cellular pattern give this piece a distinctive appearance. The knife measures 3 inches closed with a 2 1/4-inch blade. This piece has been sold and is preserved in the Rough Cut Lapidary gallery as an example of past work.

About Dinosaur GemboneDinosaur gembone is fossilized dinosaur bone that has been mineralized over geologic time. Much of the dinosaur bone we use comes from the Late Jurassic Morrison Formation, which occurs across parts of Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and surrounding areas. All dinosaur bone used by Rough Cut Lapidary is legally sourced from private land. The colors visible in polished gembone occur within the preserved fossilized bone cell structure.
